Ultragenyx employees bring their best to work every day, and we honor their dedication by providing a comprehensive benefits program that supports their health care, family, and financial needs. All regular full time employees are eligible for coverage starting with the first day of employment.
We offer medical plan options including Kaiser HMO and three options under Blue Shield (HMO, PPO and High Deductible with Health Savings Accounts). Your benefit advisor will help you select the plan that’s best for you.
Paid Employee/Family Care Leave
Ultragenyx provides up to 12 weeks of paid leave for an employee’s own illness/injury, the care for a family member with a serious health condition, or for baby bonding.
Paid Volunteer Time
Ultragenyx provides up to 16 hours of paid time off annually to participate in volunteer community service that enhance and serve the communities in which we live and work.
Employee Stock Purchase Plan
Ultragenyx provides employees with the opportunity to participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) twice per year, with shares available for purchase at a 15% discount.
Eligible employees may enroll in the Ultragenyx 401(k) plan at any time. Ultragenyx matches 100% of the first 3% of the employee’s deferral, all of which is immediately vested.
Our comprehensive vision service plan (VSP) includes an annual eye exam, lenses or contacts every 12 months, and eyeglass frames every 24 months.
The Delta Dental PPO dental plan is designed to allow participants to choose to receive care from any licensed dentist, and includes Orthodontic coverage for an adult and child.
Health Savings Account
Ultragenyx contributes to the annual deductible of participants on the Blue Shield High Deductible Plan through a Health Savings Account in the amount of $2,250 per year for individuals and $3,375 per year for families.
Flexible Spending Account
Ultragenyx offers employees an option to set aside a portion of their salary on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified medical and dependent care expenses.
Lincoln Financial Group Life/AD&D
Ultragenyx provides eligible employees with Group Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance at no cost, with the option to purchase additional life insurance as well.
Peace of mind is priceless. Ultragenyx provides short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost to employees.
Vacation and Sick Time Benefits
Ultragenyx provides nine company-designated holidays each year and two separate paid weeks where Ultragenyx US offices are closed. This is in addition to our standard vacation accrual of 3 weeks for the first 4 years of employment and 5 sick days per year.

The Ultragenyx summer internship is a dynamic 10-12 week program for students interested in the field of science/biotechnology. You’ll work as a member of a project team in research, commercial, medical affairs, clinical, regulatory, or a business area, and gain hands-on experience while making a measurable contribution to your assigned department. As an Ultragenyx intern, you’ll receive the guidance and support you need to advance your academic and professional success.
All positions will show specific qualifications for educational level and experience. In general, summer interns at Ultragenyx must have completed at minimum, their freshman year of college, be enrolled as a full-time student, and have plans to return to school in the following term. All interns must be available to work full-time for the entire duration of the summer intern program.
Interns are paid a competitive hourly rate, however students applying credits towards their degree will not receive compensation. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation and housing for the summer, and are not eligible for employee benefits. Please note that our annual Summer Shutdown impacts working hours, typically meaning a week off toward the middle of the program, though this can vary based on project need.
Internships post in December of the previous year and run through the end of January. Interview timing varies by position from December through March. Internships begin in mid to late June and run through the end of August, though timing can vary by department.
